They are all hand forged of 5160 and L6, with a lot of sweat and blisters :D

Sometimes I forge it on the horn and sometimes on the edge of the anvil.

i feel your pain. i do all my damascus with colonial technics so therefor no power hammers are allowed. im never had enough time to make a piece of damascus big enough. XD

Almost the same here, but I do cheat a little. Instead of bellows I use a vacuum cleaner. :D

Well... unfortunately I don't really sell just bars. You know, the thing is, that till the heat treating of a finished blade, I don't actually know that it is good or not. Because the hand forging, there is the possibility of weld flaws, which shows itself only at the quench. If there is a weld flaw, it rips open the blade immediately, making the blade useless :( and letting you with a long face.
I can't allow this to happen anywhere else out of my shop. Hope you understand.

well... id honnestly prefer the risk but i understand. the little true damascus ive made had been for rings. and turning the wagon rim and lawn mower blade into that has proven to never leave a solid piece. theres always a crack where it didnt weld and by the time i finish expanding the finger hole it... well... its pretty obvious and i dont even quench them. i havnt posted pictures for a reason. also, i can make do with a crack, ive only made a few knifes that even are worthy of being compaired to yours. i have one steel cable knife and then like 5 rebar knifes that are half decent (no cracks or burn marks.) visitors come and go asking questions so its not the ideal environment for fine quality work... :\

Thanks :)
They say that repeating is the mother of knowledge ;) Just gather a little more experience and I'm sure you will achieve what you want!

Try using leaf spring and some old file. They are welding together magnificently and give a very good blade ;)
